The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced, strategic Head Accountant to own our accounting function and serve as the financial backbone of the organization. This is a fully remote leadership role within a company operating at the intersection of music, technology, and media.
You will have full ownership of core accounting operations — AP, AR, payroll, royalties, and reporting — while also leading financial planning, forecasting, and analysis that directly informs executive decision-making. This is a high-trust, high-visibility role: you'll set the standards for accuracy and process across the function, and your insight will shape how leadership plans and makes decisions. The ideal candidate is technically sharp, comfortable operating independently at a senior level, and able to translate financial data into clear, actionable insight for leadership.
What You’ll Do
• Accounts Payable — Own vendor invoice and payment processes, ensuring bills are paid on time and vendor records stay accurate and up to date.
• Accounts Receivable — Oversee invoicing, payment posting, and collections, ensuring outstanding balances are tracked and resolved.
• Royalty Accounting — Ensure royalty calculations and statements are accurate and distributed on time using software such as Tone or Curve, maintaining clean royalty records.
• Payroll — Oversee payroll processing end to end, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely resolution of any discrepancies.
• Financial Reporting — Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting process and the period-end close, ensuring the general ledger and balance sheet are fully reconciled.
• Financial Planning & Forecasting — Lead the development of financial models, budgets, and forecasts that give leadership a clear, forward-looking view of the business.
• Evaluate the financial viability of new business opportunities and verticals, and build out the accounting infrastructure needed to support each new opportunity as it comes online.
• Executive Decision Support — Serve as a trusted financial advisor to leadership, delivering analysis and recommendations that directly shape strategic decisions.
• Tax Filing Support — Oversee documentation and coordination with the CPA or tax preparer, ensuring filings such as sales tax, payroll tax, and 1099s are accurate and on time.
• Process & Team Leadership — Establish and improve accounting processes and controls, and serve as the go-to authority for accounting matters across the organization.
What You Bring
• 6+ years of accounting experience, including ownership of a full accounting function
• Demonstrated experience leading financial planning, budgeting, or forecasting at a strategic level
• Experience managing inter-company transactions and reconciliations across multiple legal entities
• Track record of advising leadership or executives using financial analysis
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
• Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets
• Discreet and professional when handling sensitive financial information
• Tech-forward thinking. You stay current on emerging accounting tools, AI-powered workflows, and platform changes, and you're quick to test and adopt what improves accuracy and efficiency.
Nice To Have
• Experience in music, entertainment, publishing, licensing, or another royalty-based business
• Familiarity with royalty accounting software such as Tone or Curve
• Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA preferred
Compensation Details
• Competitive salary: $90,000–$120,000 commensurate with experience
