Fat Beats is an iconic brand in the world of independent hip-hop and vinyl culture. Since its founding in 1994 as a small record shop in New York City, Fat Beats quickly became a hub for underground hip-hop artists, DJs, and fans. The original storefront served as a global meeting place and distribution center, earning a reputation for curating and carrying the best in independent rap music. Over the decades, Fat Beats has evolved into a prominent record label, distributor, and online retailer, remaining dedicated to promoting high-quality music and continuing the legacy of vinyl culture within the independent music community. 
Internship Overview
The Fat Beats Content Marketing Internship offers aspiring marketers, creators, and storytellers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience building content for one of the most respected brands in independent music and hip-hop culture. Interns will work alongside the marketing team to develop engaging content that promotes artists, vinyl releases, podcasts, events, retail initiatives, and the Fat Beats brand across digital platforms. This immersive program provides practical experience in content strategy, creative storytelling, social media, video production, copywriting, and audience engagement while helping interns build a professional portfolio within the music industry. 
**Areas of Learning **
• Content strategy and editorial planning 
• Social media content creation for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and X
• Copywriting for music releases, vinyl products, email campaigns, and blogs
• Short-form video production and editing 
• Artist storytelling and brand development 
• Content calendar planning and scheduling 
• Community management and fan engagement 
• Basic content performance analysis and reporting 
• Creative collaboration with marketing, design, and artist teams 
**Responsibilities: **
• Assist in developing weekly content calendars and campaign plans 
• Create social media graphics, captions, reels, and short-form videos 
• Write product descriptions, artist spotlights, blog articles, and email copy 
• Research music trends, cultural moments, and audience insights
• Capture behind-the-scenes content at events, interviews, and in-store activations
• Help manage social media publishing and community engagement 
• Support podcast, artist, and vinyl release campaigns with creative content 
• Track content performance and identify opportunities to improve engagement 
**What We’re Looking For **
• Have a passion for hip-hop, vinyl, independent music, and music culture 
• Enjoy writing, storytelling, photography, or video creation 
• Are familiar with social media platforms and current content trends 
• Have basic experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar creative tools
• Are organized, collaborative, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment
• Bring fresh ideas and a curiosity for music marketing 
Program Details
• Eligibility: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a college or university program and eligible to receive academic credit for the internship. Placement is for academic credit only; interns areunpaid and not entitled to wages.
• Schedule: Flexible commitment of 10–15 hours per week including weekly check-ins and progress reports. 
• Location: The role allows for remote and in-office participation. Candidates based in New York, NY are preferred. 
• Growth: Interns will receive direct mentorship, regular assignments and constructive feedback throughout the program, providing valuable industry insights and professional development.
