**About the team **

PPL’s Technology team is constantly evolving and challenging what they do so we can remain the best at what we do. They aim to find new ways of working and stretch their capabilities to do great things. Being a part of Technology at PPL requires a passion for technology and developing new skills. The team has core areas which include Development, Operations, Support and Projects.

What you’ll be doing:

As the Lead Data Engineer, your mission is to drive the design, development, and optimisation of our Analytic Data Platform (ADP). You will play a pivotal role in harnessing the power of data to support informed decision-making and drive business growth. Leveraging your expertise in data architecture, data pipelines and data warehousing, you will lead the development of robust, scalable, and efficient data pipelines and products. You will establish best-practice methodologies and reusable design patterns that result in high-quality, reliable solutions.

The Lead Data Engineer reports to the Data Architect. In the process of delivering data products, you will collaborate closely with various technology teams, including DevOps, Quality Assurance (QA), and IT Operations. You will also work closely with Insight/Data Analysts and business subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand their needs and gain a comprehensive understanding of PPL's data. Armed with this knowledge, your skills, and experience, you will take a hands-on approach to leading the data engineers in delivering impactful data products.

You will have a strong passion for data and its potential to drive business value. This includes a keen interest in exploring and learning about emerging data technologies, technical frameworks, Snowflake and the AWS Cloud.

Key Responsibilities will include:

Data Pipeline Development: Take primary responsibility to design, develop, and maintain data pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into the ADP, ensuring data accuracy and reliability. Ensure the pipelines are robust and reliable, performing troubleshooting and repair as necessary.
Data Platform Evolution: Take ownership of the technical services, tools, frameworks and code that make up the data platform, proactively looking for opportunities to improve its capabilities, minimise technical debt and increase the agility of development and testing activities.
Data Integration: Integrate data from multiple sources, such as databases, APIs, and external data sets, into a unified and accessible data ecosystem.
Cloud Integration: Design and implement AWS services used by the ADP or used in its integration with other PPL applications.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of data pipelines, data models, and data-related processes to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing. Work with the Data Architect and team to build a repository of reusable design patterns, code, and automated tests to accelerate data onboarding into the ADP.
Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data analysts and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements and deliver data solutions that meet their needs.
Mentoring: Provide guidance and mentorship to data engineers, helping them develop their skills and grow in their roles.
Stay Current: Continuously stay updated on emerging data technologies, tools, and best practices to ensure the organisation remains competitive and innovative in data engineering. Lead the selection of data engineering tools and methods, their implementation and evolution.
