About PPL’s Business Services Team
Licensing hundreds of thousands of organisations, collecting, and then distributing hundreds of millions of pounds of revenues to potentially, hundreds of thousands of performers and recording rightsholders, accurately and efficiently, requires significant investment in people, processes, technology, and data.
Developing and maintaining these capabilities locally is a high cost, high-risk strategy and does not always represent good value for members. To address this, PPL has developed a suite of Business Services that enable other CMOs to utilise PPL’s existing capabilities rather than invest in their own. This takes cost out of the industry, enabling more revenue to be paid to more members, quickly and accurately.
The Business Services team currently operates nine services, eight to CMOs around the world, and one to the UK record companies. Further opportunities are currently under development.
What you’ll be doing:
Working within a small, dynamic, multi-skilled team, the Senior Analyst, Business Services (SABS) is responsible for supporting the delivery of a range of services that help organisations from around the world to make accurate payments to performers and recording rightsholders for the use of their music by television and radio broadcasters, and public venues, such as pubs, restaurants, shops, and offices.
As a member of a front-of-house service team, the SABS will have a strong sense of teamwork and be confident working with customers and stakeholders at various levels of seniority, from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds, who often do not speak English as their first language.
The SABS will be highly organised and disciplined, take a logical and analytical approach to their work, and have an engaging and professional customer manner and style. The SABS will have a keen interest in the music industry and have at least a basic understanding of how CMOs license music and distribute royalties.
Core to success in this role will be your ability to:
Support the design and delivery of services to a structured plan and budget. The SABS will take responsibility for ensuring customers deliver input datasets to agreed plans and standards, and for ensuring internal teams at PPL process this data to agreed service levels to ensure it can be used by customers for making accurate royalty payments to performers and/or recording rightsholders; Lead the validation, cleanse, and analysis of messy datasets, making sense of what the data tells you and what this means, while applying music knowledge and experience to validate findings, identify and question anomalies, and make recommendations.
Clearly summarise and communicate plans, progress reports, operational risks and issues, and analysis findings and recommendations, which together will aim to help internal support teams and external customers to prioritise and schedule their workload appropriately; and Support management and the wider team to identify and drive internal and external positive change. There are plenty of areas for improvement and the SABS will be encouraged to identify and champion opportunities to implement change where the opportunity arises.

Key Responsibilities will include:

• Lead on analysis of all incoming and outgoing datasets and be comfortable explaining to both senior and junior colleagues, as well as external partners, why data looks right or wrong to agreed service levels.
• Gain and maintain an understanding of PPL operational processes, systems, reports, and data challenges relevant to Business Services.
• Support the Senior Manager, Business Services to understand Client CMO objectives and challenges and identify new opportunities to address these.
• Support the Senior Manager, Business Services with the identification and delivery of solutions that improve existing processes, systems and reporting to improve quality, efficiency and customer service.
