About the Role
Pigeons & Planes is looking for a Los Angeles-based freelance video editor to help bring our music-focused video content to life across YouTube and our social platforms.
The editing work will include shortform social clips, longform interviews, documentary-style storytelling, and live performances. We’re looking for an editor who is technically strong, has a love for music, and understands how to tell compelling stories in both longform and shortform formats on YouTube and socials.
This is a per-project freelance opportunity, with the potential to grow into a full-time role in our Los Angeles studio.
What You’ll Work On
• Shortform interview clips for socials
• Shortform video series with graphics packages
• Longform hosted interview series for YouTube
• Live performance series for YouTube
• Documentary-style one-off content for YouTube and socials
• Occasional one-off projects
Responsibilities
• Edit raw footage into polished, engaging videos for YouTube and social platforms
• Collaborate with the Pigeons & Planes team on creative direction, storytelling, pacing, and overall execution
• Work within the structure of pre-existing P&P video formats, as well as help set the tone and look/feel of new-to-world series, in collaboration with P&P producers
• Create shortform social edits from longer pieces of content, identifying moments with the strongest hooks and potential to resonate with audiences
• Incorporate music, graphics, text, archival material, and other visual elements where appropriate
• Handle basic color correction, audio cleanup, and finishing as part of the editing process
• Organize project files and media to maintain an efficient post-production workflow
• Incorporate feedback and revisions while maintaining creative and editorial consistency
• Deliver final assets according to platform-specific specifications and deadlines
Qualifications
• Experience editing music-related video content across YouTube and socials, including interviews, documentary-style content, or similar editorial video
• Strong proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro or comparable editing software
• Understanding of YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and the different editing styles that are successful on each platform
• Ability to take a project from raw footage through a polished final edit
• Ability to edit with tone, personality, and occasionally humor
• Strong communication, organization, and file-management skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage priorities, respond efficiently to feedback, and meet deadlines
Bonus skills
• If interested in growing into a larger role in the studio, additional experience operating cameras, setting up lights, etc is preferred but not required.
