Venue Production Manager
Reports to: Director of Operations
Position Summary
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing event production needs for concerts, special events, and venue rentals. This role manages advancing technical specs, production staffing, execution, and load-out of shows to ensure a professional and safe experience for artists, crews, staff, and guests. The Production Manager serves as the main point of contact for production-related logistics, functions as FOH, MON or LD, and works closely with talent buyers, operations, and security.
Key Responsibilities
Show Advancing & Artist Communication
Review and confirm technical riders, stage plots, input lists, and production schedules.
Respond to any technical/production related questions and be available for advance calls with artist production teams.
Communicate venue capabilities, labor availability, curfews, and operational limitations.
Build and distribute detailed day-of-show production schedules to internal staff.

Event Production Oversight
Oversee all day-of-show production operations from load-in through load-out.
Ensure stage, audio, lighting, backline, power, and other production elements are prepared and functioning properly.
Troubleshoot technical or logistical issues in real time and make decisions under pressure.
Maintain show flow and coordinate with FOH, security, box office, bar, and management teams.
Ensure artist and crew needs are addressed professionally while protecting venue policies and resources.

Staffing & Crew Management
Function as Production Manager, FOH, MON, LD as needed.
Schedule and supervise production staff including audio engineers, lighting technicians, stagehands.
Hire, train, and evaluate freelance or part-time production crew as needed.
Set labor calls based on event scope, budget, and technical needs.
Ensure crew members are on time, prepared, and following venue standards.
Foster a team culture of professionalism, urgency, safety, and hospitality.

Equipment & Facility Management
Maintain venue production equipment including PA, monitors, consoles, microphones, DI boxes, cables, lighting fixtures, risers, and backline.
Track equipment condition, repairs, replacements, and preventive maintenance.
Coordinate rentals or supplemental production gear when needed.
Keep production areas, stage, and storage spaces organized and show-ready.
Monitor venue cleanliness and readiness in artist-facing production spaces.

Budgeting & Cost Control
Manage show-related production expenses and labor within approved budgets.
Review labor needs against show scaling.
Help control costs for rentals, repairs, supplies, and freelance labor.
Submit invoices, receipts, and payroll information accurately and on time.
Provide recommendations on equipment investments and operational efficiencies.

Safety & Compliance
Ensure safe working conditions for staff, artists, and vendors.
Enforce venue safety policies related to stage access, rigging, electrical use, crowd interaction, and load-in/load-out.
Coordinate with operations and security on emergency procedures and incident response.
Ensure compliance with local regulations, venue rules, and insurance requirements.
Report accidents, damages, and production incidents promptly.

Cross-Department Collaboration
Work closely with talent buying to understand show needs and scaling.
Coordinate with operations management on staffing plans, timelines, and event readiness.
Participate in post-show review and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications
5+ years of live event or concert production experience, preferably in a club, theater, or music venue environment.
Strong understanding of live audio, lighting, stage management, and backline
Experience advancing shows and reading technical/hospitality riders.
Ability to lead crews and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills with artists, agents, tour managers, and internal teams.
Knowledge of event safety practices and production risk management.
Proficiency with production schedules, labor planning, and event logistics.
Flexible schedule with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Valid driver’s license required

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in venues with mixed-use programming including concerts, private events, comedy, and community events.
Existing network of freelance production staff and vendors.
Familiarity with budgeting, payroll, and production cost tracking.
Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to lift and move equipment, often up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in loud, fast-paced, late-night environments.
Ability to navigate stairs, stage areas, loading docks, and outdoor event spaces as needed.

Success Metrics
Shows are advanced accurately and on time.
Production labor stays on budget and properly scaled.
Events run safely, smoothly, and on schedule.
Artists, crews, and promoters have a strong experience at the venue.
Equipment is maintained and downtime is minimized.
Internal communication and cross-department coordination improve event execution.
