About the role
Radio Buena Vida is a community-led internet radio station and arts platform championing under-represented voices through music and creativity.
We're looking for someone with strong technical skills and practical experience in audio, broadcasting or other relevant technology to help keep our broadcasts running smoothly and develop our digital systems.
You'll work alongside our volunteer radio producers and wider team, troubleshooting technical problems, supporting our broadcasting equipment and digital infrastructure, and maintaining our growing archive.
What you'll do
• Support the day-to-day technical running of the station, including monitoring of live radio broadcasts, broadcasting equipment, streaming systems and troubleshooting.
• Providing assistance & feedback to presenters & DJs
• Support with the training and development of our volunteer radio producers.
• Oversee recordings, audio quality, uploads, metadata and our digital archive.
• Monitor automated radio systems, identify errors and help resolve problems.
• Help maintain and improve our technical systems, identifying potential problems and ways to make broadcasts more reliable.
• Keep our Radio Producer Volunteer Manual accurate and up to date.
• Work with our Lead Programmer and Programme & Events Coordinator to support the smooth delivery of radio programming.
• Provide occasional technical support for special broadcasts and events.
What we're looking for
• Strong practical technical skills and experience in at least one relevant area, such as internet radio broadcasting software, audio production, sound engineering, coding, website development or maintenance, OBS/video streaming, or DJ and audio equipment.
• Proven ability to investigate and troubleshoot technical problems, identify causes and find practical solutions.
• Confidence working with digital systems and learning new technologies.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and a supportive approach to working with volunteers.
• Reliability, initiative and an interest in community radio and RBV's inclusive values.
• Calm under pressure
You must have existing technical skills and experience to apply, but you don't need to be experienced in every area listed. We're particularly interested in people who can apply their technical knowledge across different systems and help improve the reliability of our broadcasts.
We welcome relevant experience gained through paid work, volunteering, community radio, independent projects and self-taught practice.
We particularly welcome applications from people who are under-represented in the music, broadcasting and creative industries.
How to apply
Complete our short online application form. No CV or cover letter required. Alternative application formats are welcome.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an informal interview in mid December. This will be a conversation about your application, and we'll share some topics we'd particularly like to discuss in advance. There won't be any presentations or tasks to prepare.
Supported by National Lottery funding through Creative Scotland's Open Fund for Organisations.
