The ideal candidate for the Director, Copyright Administration position is a seasoned music administration executive with substantial experience across music publishing, recorded music, copyright, royalty administration, and music metadata management. This role is responsible for overseeing all administration functions across the company's publishing and recorded music catalogs, ensuring the accuracy of copyright registrations, royalty tracking, metadata, and internal systems while supporting the commercial growth of the business. This position will work closely with the existing administration, label, publishing, finance, and executive teams. The role requires deep expertise in domestic and international music copyright, royalty administration, publishing operations, and catalog management.
Responsibilities
• Manage publishing and recorded music administration functions across the company's global catalog
• Oversee domestic and international copyright registrations, catalog maintenance, and rights administration
• Manage the accuracy and integrity of publishing and master recording metadata across internal and external systems
• Establish and maintain best practices for catalog management, royalty administration, and operational workflows
• Oversee royalty tracking, statement review, income reconciliation, and administrative reporting
• Manage publishing splits, resolve ownership discrepancies, and coordinate with clients, managers, attorneys, publishers, labels, distributors, and collection societies
• Partner cross-functionally with publishing, marketing, creative, finance, and executive teams to support catalog growth and operational efficiency
• Oversee the administration of newly acquired catalogs, new releases, and ongoing catalog updates
• Evaluate and implement systems and processes that improve administrative efficiency, reporting, and data accuracy
• Stay current on domestic and international copyright regulations, royalty practices, and industry standards
• Some travel may be required
Qualifications
• 8+ years of relevant experience in music publishing administration, label administration, or music rights administration
• Deep expertise in domestic and international music copyright, publishing administration, and royalty operations
• Extensive experience managing music copyright registrations, metadata, and catalog administration
• Strong understanding of royalty accounting, income tracking, and statement review processes
• Experience with publishing administration platforms, royalty systems, PROs, CMOs, DSPs, and industry databases
• Strong commercial and operational judgment
• Exceptional organizational and project management skills
• Analytical, detail-oriented, and data-driven
• Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects and priorities simultaneously
• High integrity and discretion
• Proactive, resourceful, and solutions-oriented
