Internship (Academic Credit)

Remote • New York, NY, USA

Category: Marketing/PR/Social/Events

Location: NYC-based preferred
Schedule: Part-time/flexible, primarily remote with attendance at monthly NYC events
About PopHang NYC
PopHang is a growing community for music industry creatives — bringing together artists, songwriters, producers, managers, and other creatives through in-person events and experiences. The goal is to create a community that exists beyond just the events themselves.
The Role
We're looking for a creative, plugged-in NYC-based intern to help us grow PopHang NYC's social presence and community. You'll work directly with Emilie and Ali across content creation, social media, event coverage, and day-to-day community-building initiatives.
This is a great opportunity for someone interested in music marketing, social media, events, content creation, and community building who wants hands-on experience working with a growing music community.
What you'll be doing
Social Media & Content
• Help manage and grow PopHang's Instagram
• Launch and help build PopHang's TikTok presence
• Brainstorm and pitch new content ideas and recurring social series
• Identify trends, formats, and opportunities that could work for the PopHang audience
• Help develop content strategies that make PopHang feel like a community, not just an event series
• Assist with captions, copy, CTAs, and social scheduling
Event Content
• Attend PopHang's monthly NYC events and capture content
• Get behind-the-scenes footage, attendee interviews, candid moments, event recaps, etc.
Editing & Design
• Edit short-form video for Instagram and TikTok using CapCut
• Create simple social graphics and promotional materials using Canva
Community Growth
• Brainstorm ways to keep the PopHang community engaged between events
• Come up with ideas for increasing attendance, engagement, and repeat participation
• Help develop new ways for members to connect with each other outside of events
• Contribute ideas for partnerships, collaborations, and community initiatives
Admin & Support
• Assist with event-related administrative tasks
• Help maintain content calendars and organizational systems
• Assist with outreach and research as needed
We're looking for someone who...
• Is NYC-based and able to attend our monthly events
• Is genuinely interested in music, entertainment, social media, and/or events
• Has a good eye for what makes content feel current, authentic, and engaging
• Is comfortable shooting video on an iPhone
• Has experience with Instagram, TikTok, Canva, and/or CapCut
• Is proactive and willing to bring their own ideas to the table
• Is organized, reliable, and comfortable working independently
• Understands social media beyond just "posting"
• Is excited about building a community and meeting people in NYC's music scene
Bonus if you:
• Have experience running a social media account
• Have experience creating Reels/TikToks
• Have a strong understanding of TikTok trends
• Have an interest in music industry marketing
• Are comfortable interviewing people on camera
• Have photography/video experience
• Already have a network within NYC's music/creative community
