Commercial Marketing Coordinator
Overview
Mexican Summer and Anthology Recordings are Brooklyn-based independent record labels with a deep commitment to creative and culturally significant music. The Commercial Marketing Coordinator is a hands-on, execution-focused role at the center of how we bring music to market across physical and direct-to-consumer channels. Reporting to the Label Manager and working closely with label leadership and project managers, this person serves as the point-of-contact with our domestic physical distribution partner, and handles day-to-day execution of physical release strategy across the full catalog and frontline slate. This role also supports the company’s international commercial operations and growth, led by the Head of UK & International, and the company’s streaming operations, led by the Head of Streaming. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and genuinely enthusiastic about independent music. The Commercial Marketing Coordinator is accountable to the commercial goals set by label leadership and approaches every aspect of the role with those targets in mind.
Core Responsibilities
Physical Retail and Distribution
• Execute physical retail sales strategy for frontline and catalog.
• Serve as the operational point-of-contact with domestic distributor, coordinating priorities, allocations, promotional programs, one-sheets and product set-up.
• Manage and develop relationships with North American and LATAM retail accounts and buyers.
• Identify and secure retail exclusives, in-store events, and marketing programs with key accounts in collaboration with label leadership.
• Manage Record Store Day submissions and related retail program coordination.
• Coordinate and track discount campaigns and seasonal programs.
• Support international physical retail and D2C marketing strategy and execution under the direction of the Head of UK & International.
Direct-to-Consumer (D2C)
• Execute D2C strategy across frontline and catalog releases, including product ideation and setup, pricing, bundling, and rollout planning, in coordination with label leadership and the creative team.
• Manage webstore operations — product descriptions, imagery, store merchandising — ensuring all D2C product is set up accurately and on time before release.
• Assist in planning and executing seasonal D2C initiatives, limited edition product drops, sales, and catalog promotions.
• Lead customer service and CRM, providing direction for reactive scenarios, proactively flagging potential issues before they arise, and managing communication with customers.
• Identify opportunities to grow D2C revenue through product innovation, bundling, and promotional campaigns.
Streaming and DSP Operations
• Generate and maintain pre-save/smartlinks according to overall links strategy.
• Maintain a log of playlist placements, editorial adds, and platform features, and share updates with internal team.
• Optimize artist and label profiles across all DSPs, including uploading profile assets, artist playlists, and all best practices.
• Connect physical products to streaming profiles, including Shopify integrations.
• Execute release-day operations such as turning product links live and quality checking all releases.
Commercial Strategy and Collaboration
• Ensure physical retail and D2C needs are built into campaign planning from kickoff, working closely with project managers across all active releases to execute commercial marketing strategy.
• Coordinate retail and D2C promotion across other departments including streaming, digital advertising, and social media.
• Deliver regular sales reporting and gather input from distribution partners and retail accounts, communicating takeaways back to internal teams.
• Monitor activity and demand for repress and catalog opportunities, working with Head of Production for inventory management.
• Contribute to commercial goal-setting for specific campaigns and the label group more broadly, working with label leadership and project managers to establish realistic targets and track performance against them.
• Participate in commercial planning meetings and regular sales reviews, bringing distributor and retail intelligence back to the broader team.
What We’re Looking For
• 1–2 years of experience in the music industry, preferably at a record label, distributor, retailer, or otherwise relevant company.
• demonstrated knowledge of how independent physical distribution and retail operate — who the key players are and how to navigate.
• Genuine enthusiasm for independent, catalog, and left-of-center music.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities across a busy release slate without losing the details.
• A proactive, self-starting approach — someone who identifies what needs to happen and acts on it.
• Comfort working in a small, fast-moving team where roles overlap and initiative is valued.
• Familiarity with Ochre, Shopify, Bandcamp, and/or other D2C and e-commerce platforms.
• Experience with distributor B2B portals and reporting tools.
