Why this job exists
Rebel is a new type of music label. We handle YouTube rights management, publishing, and distribution for many of the world’s most successful independent artists and labels, and we find money for them that nobody else is able to.
Our clients get paid through a chain of partners, platforms and splits, and one client’s money can come from several places at once. As we grow, we want one person who owns that whole process: the reporting, the payments, and the advances and recoupments that sit on top of them, so we continue to ensure every client is paid on time with a statement that makes sense.
The same person will own our contracts, from first draft to signed and filed.
What you'll handle
How clients get paid: reporting, advances and recoupment. You own the process: statements arriving from every partner, deposits sorted into what's ours and what's a client's, splits applied correctly, and clear reporting back to clients on what they earned and what they were paid. When we advance money to a client, you set up how it's recouped under their agreement, track it until it's paid back, and make sure their statements show where it stands. You also run regular checks that every client is paid correctly and on time, and you follow up with partners on anything that looks off. When you spot a problem, you fix the process behind it so it doesn't come back.
Contracts. Draft agreements and amendments from our templates, send them, track them to signature, file them, and keep our records current. We agree on the main commercial terms with clients and partners. You turn those into clean paper and handle the legal and mechanical terms around them, and sometimes you'll be the one talking to the other side. You'll know when something needs outside counsel, and you'll bring them in.
Questions from clients and the team. Clients and teammates will come to you about payments and contracts, and you'll answer them.
Who this is for
You've worked in business affairs, contracts or royalties, at a label, publisher, management company, business management, or a law firm's entertainment group. A paralegal certificate, a law degree you're not practicing, or in-house contracts experience might be helpful. You won't be giving legal advice.
This is a hands-on role.
You've owned a process with money moving through it and left it more reliable than you found it. When a number doesn't match, you don't let it go until you know why.
You write clearly. A client reading your email about their payment should understand it the first time.
You keep track of what's open without being reminded, and if something is going to slip, we hear about it before the deadline.
How we work
Fully remote and always have been. We meet in person a couple of times a year, usually somewhere better than an office.
You'll report to the founders and work with the whole team, because every part of the business touches payments and contracts.
No departments, no silos: everyone works directly with everyone. We use AI heavily for internal work and expect you to as well.
