A&R Internship (Winter-Spring 2027)
Internship (Academic Credit)
Remote
Category: Artist Management
About this internship
You’ll get a proper introduction to A&R from our A&R team, which has more than 20 years of experience and has worked with artists such as R3hab, Afrojack, Matisse & Sadko and Arty, among many others.
We approach A&R as work that isn’t driven by data. We don’t use AI or tools that break down the latest viral artists across genres, because a chart shows you what’s already happened. We want you to build your ear, your taste and your judgment, and to be able to explain why something works.
That means starting with the basics. You’ll learn how music is built, including parts of production, and how artist projects are discovered and also maintained within a label or management roster, since finding an artist is only the first step.
What you’ll do
• Listen widely and scout new artists by ear, across any genre
• Write short, honest assessments of what works in a track or a project, and why
• Learn the basics of music and parts of production, so you can talk about records precisely
• Follow how A&R decisions are made, including listening sessions, artist meetings and release planning
• See how artists are developed and looked after once they’re on a roster
• Help prepare internal materials, such as artist research, briefs and pitch notes
What you’ll get
• A real introduction to A&R from people who have done it at the top level
• Direct feedback on your ear and your assessments
• Access to real artist projects, and hands-on practice working directly with an artist under the guidance of your internship supervisor
• An understanding of how artist development, labels, management and deals work
• Introductions to people in our network where they make sense
• Academic credit where your school permits. We’re happy to complete any internship paperwork it requires
Who we’re looking for
• A student or early-career person with a real passion for music and for finding artists
• A good ear and an opinion you can defend
• Curiosity about how music is made, including production
• Reliable and good at taking feedback
How to apply
Send us:
• Three unsigned or emerging artists you’d sign, and one sentence on why for each, in your own words, with no stats
• A few words on what you listen to and what you’d like to learn
• Anything you’ve done in music, if you have, though it isn’t required at all
Details
