Metro Public Relations
Senior Publicist - Music
Full-time
Hybrid • Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid)
$75,000-$90,000
Metro PR, an entertainment-focused communications firm, is hiring a Senior Publicist to join our Music Division. This team member will work across a dynamic roster of artists spanning Afrobeats, R&B, hip-hop, pop, and emerging genres, helping to develop and execute strategic communications campaigns that drive cultural conversation and long-term career growth.
The ideal candidate is deeply immersed in music, entertainment, fashion, internet culture, and social media. They understand that today's publicity extends far beyond traditional media and know how to identify opportunities across digital platforms, creator communities, podcasts, newsletters, fashion, experiential events, and emerging cultural moments.
This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role. While this position comes with team support and opportunities to mentor junior staff, we are looking for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves - pitching media, building relationships, brainstorming creative ideas, coordinating opportunities, and contributing meaningfully to day-to-day account execution. This is not a management-only role.
Candidates should have 5+ years of experience in music publicity, entertainment communications, or a related field, ideally within an agency environment. Experience representing artists across multiple genres - including pop, hip-hop, R&B, Afrobeats, country, rock, electronic, Latin, or adjacent entertainment sectors - is strongly preferred. Strong existing relationships within music and entertainment media, record labels, management companies, and the broader cultural landscape are highly valued.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute strategic publicity campaigns across album releases, tours, partnerships, announcements, and long-term artist positioning.
• Execute proactive media outreach - and deliver results - across print, digital, broadcast, podcasts, newsletters, creators, and emerging media platforms.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with music, entertainment, culture, lifestyle, and business media.
• Identify internet-first publicity opportunities, including creator collaborations, digital franchises, social-first editorial formats, YouTube series, podcasts, TikTok, Instagram, and other culturally relevant platforms.
• Maintain a strong understanding of the fashion landscape, including luxury houses, designers, stylists, fashion editors, Fashion Week opportunities, and brand partnerships relevant to artist positioning.
• Work collaboratively with record labels, artist management, booking agents, attorneys, stylists, and brand partners throughout campaign execution.
• Draft press releases, media pitches, biographies, talking points, briefing documents, media lists, and other client materials with little to no oversight.
• Lead client meetings, internal brainstorms, and strategic planning sessions, consistently contributing thoughtful recommendations and creative solutions.
• Stay informed on breaking news, music industry developments, pop culture, entertainment trends, fashion, and social media conversations that may create opportunities for clients.
• Represent clients in the field across shoots, red carpets, interviews, broadcast bookings, events, and activations while confidently managing real-time issues and shifting priorities.
• Support the execution of client events, appearances, and activations while managing press logistics and on-site communications.
• Mentor and support junior team members by reviewing work, sharing best practices, and providing guidance while remaining actively involved in campaign execution.
• Manage multiple accounts simultaneously while maintaining exceptional organization, responsiveness, and attention to detail.
Key Competencies & Understandings:
• Deep understanding of today's music industry, artist campaigns, and media landscape.
• Experience representing talent across multiple music genres and the ability to tailor communications strategies to different audiences, fan communities, and cultural moments.
• Strong knowledge of internet culture, creator ecosystems, social media trends, and digital-first publicity opportunities.
• Familiarity with the fashion industry, including luxury brands, fashion houses, stylists, editors, and key cultural events.
• Existing relationships with music, entertainment, lifestyle, and culture media.
• Exceptional writing, editing, pitching, and verbal communication skills.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and shifting priorities.
• Creative thinker who proactively brings ideas and solutions to clients and internal teams.
• Collaborative, positive, and team-oriented working style.
• Ability to manage up by anticipating account needs, communicating proactively, and navigating fast-moving campaigns with confidence.
• Strong attention to detail, including spelling, grammar, and the delivery of polished, client-ready work.
• Understands how to deliver measurable results, not simply effort.
