This is a hands-on leadership role, not an office-based management position. The successful candidate will be highly visible at the venue, lead from the front, take ownership of operational standards and ensure every department is organised, accountable and working together effectively.
The General Manager will oversee the venue from event planning and preparation through to close-down, ensuring that every event is delivered safely, efficiently and professionally while maintaining the high standards expected of LDN East.
Key Responsibilities
Venue & Event Operations
Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of LDN East.
Oversee the complete delivery of events from initial planning through to close-down.
Ensure the venue is fully prepared, staffed and operational before promoters, artists and customers arrive.
Coordinate bar, security, floor staff, cleaning, production, sound and other operational teams.
Manage event schedules, staffing requirements, suppliers and operational logistics.
Ensure the venue is cleaned, reset, secured and ready for the next event.
Identify operational issues quickly and take ownership of resolving them.
Maintain consistently high standards of presentation, service, cleanliness and professionalism across the venue.
Staff Leadership & Management
Lead, manage and motivate all venue staff, including bar managers, bar staff, security, cleaners, sound technicians, floor staff and other operational personnel.
Recruit, onboard and train staff as required.
Prepare clear rotas, responsibilities and staffing plans for each event.
Ensure all staff arrive on time, are appropriately briefed and are ready to work.
Monitor staff performance and maintain accountability across all departments.
Conduct performance reviews and address disciplinary or performance issues where necessary.
Build a positive, professional team culture based on communication, accountability and high standards.
Arrange additional staffing when required to meet operational demands.
Bar, Stock & Commercial Operations
Oversee the effective management of all bars and bar operations.
Ensure bars are fully stocked, prepared and operational before every event.
Oversee regular and accurate stocktakes.
Monitor stock levels, wastage, shortages and discrepancies.
Review bar staffing levels and performance to ensure efficient operation.
Work with relevant management teams to identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and commercial performance.
Sound, Production & Technical Operations
Coordinate sound technicians, production teams and technical requirements for events.
Ensure technicians are familiar with the venue, systems and equipment.
Make sure sound checks and technical preparations are completed before artists and performers arrive.
Liaise with DJs, artists, promoters and their production teams regarding technical and operational requirements.
Ensure all agreed production requirements are communicated clearly to the relevant venue teams.
Promoters, Artists & Event Management
Act as the main operational contact for promoters before and during events.
Communicate with promoters in advance of every show to obtain all relevant event information and operational requirements.
Confirm event timings, staffing, production, access, security and other requirements before each event.
Ensure promoters clearly understand their responsibilities and what LDN East will provide.
Maintain strong, professional relationships with promoters, artists, suppliers and event partners while protecting the operational and commercial interests of LDN East.
Ensure all agreed event requirements are communicated to the relevant departments and delivered effectively.
Marketing, Bookings & Business Development
Work closely with the marketing, creative and bookings teams to support the venue's event calendar.
Assist in developing new event opportunities and venue-hire business.
Support efforts to attract new promoters, clients and event partners.
Ensure upcoming events are operationally and commercially prepared.
Identify quieter dates and work with the relevant teams to maximise venue utilisation.
Contribute ideas and initiatives that support the continued growth and success of LDN East.
Security, Licensing & Compliance
Take overall responsibility for maintaining a safe and compliant operating environment.
Ensure all relevant licensing conditions, alcohol regulations, health & safety requirements and venue procedures are followed.
Work closely with security management to prevent and manage incidents and minimise operational risk.
Ensure staff understand and follow company policies, procedures and emergency protocols.
Respond appropriately to incidents, complaints and operational issues.
Maintain professional working relationships with the council, licensing authorities, emergency services, inspectors and other relevant authorities when required.
Ensure all required documentation, records and operational procedures are maintained appropriately.
Working Pattern & Venue Presence
The General Manager is expected to be highly visible and actively involved in the operation of the venue.
Minimum office-based presence of two days per week, Monday to Friday.
Regular Saturday and Sunday daytime availability is required for venue operations, planning and preparation.
Additional evening and weekend attendance will be required when supporting nightclub events, major events or other operational requirements.
Working patterns may be adjusted where the General Manager is scheduled to work events during the week.
Flexibility is essential due to the nature of the nightclub and events industry.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for an experienced venue operator who can take genuine ownership of the role and lead a busy nightclub and events environment with confidence.
The ideal candidate will have:
Proven experience managing a busy nightclub, music venue, large event space or similar hospitality operation.
Strong leadership and people-management skills.
Excellent organisational and communication abilities.
Experience managing multiple departments and teams simultaneously.
A strong understanding of licensing, health & safety and hospitality regulations.
Experience working with promoters, artists, DJs, production teams and event suppliers.
Strong commercial awareness, particularly around bar operations, staffing, stock and venue utilisation.
The ability to remain calm, decisive and professional in a fast-paced environment.
Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.
A practical, hands-on approach to management.
The ability to set clear expectations and hold people accountable.
Excellent attention to detail and a high standard of personal organisation.
Nightclub, festival, music venue or large-capacity event experience is strongly preferred.
The Person
Most importantly, we need someone who takes ownership.
The General Manager should be someone who sees what needs to be done and makes sure it gets done — without waiting to be asked.
You will be expected to lead from the front, make decisions, solve problems quickly and ensure that every department is working to the same standard.
The successful candidate will be professional, commercially aware, confident managing people and comfortable operating in a busy, high-pressure nightlife environment.
Overall Responsibility
The General Manager is ultimately responsible for ensuring that LDN East operates safely, efficiently, professionally and commercially, with consistently high standards across venue operations, events, staff, security, bar management, production, compliance and customer experience.
